GRA Lecrin Pylon Affair - La RiojaThe Órgiva Town Hall has come out against the pylon project this will cross the Valle de Lecrín, as it would be prejudicial for the local tourism sector.

Red Eléctrica Española intends to run various HT lines across the valley and the Alpujarras: between Benahadux (Almería) and Órgiva – Saleres

Órgiva Mayor, María Ángeles Blanco, pointed out in the last Plenary Meeting of the Town Council that the project would more prejudicial than beneficial for the area, especially for their municipality.

She also announced that those who wish to join the opposition to the project should send their reasonings into the Town Hall by the 7th of March.

Órgiva is already home to a small substation, which is along the entrance road after the river, and the construction of 80-metre high pylons would very much be at odds with the picturesque panorama that the area wishes to sell as a tourist destination.

Editorial comment: in most places such a network would be buried; i.e., subterranean, but it appears that the Red Eléctrica Española wants to cut costs.
