Is It Really Necessary?

ALM Paseo RoundaboutVirtually a year ago the PSOE opposition party in Almuñecar said that the Paseo del Altillo needed to be sorted out but not the way the Mayor intended to.

Yes, the cobbled surface needed repairing and yes, the planter beds were leaking and causing problems in the car park below, but quite another matter was making a short stretch of 2-way traffic ending in an unnecessary (they consider) roundabout.

“So far the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, has managed to turn an emblematic feature of Almuñécar into a ridiculous Scalextric,” said local Secretary General for the PSOE, Rocío Palacios.

Sra. Palacios considers that nobody really understands why the Mayor bothered to establish this 2-way system plus roundabout and why she didn’t just limit public spending to repairing the road and deficient planter beds. The work, after all, is costing the municipal coffers some 100,000 euros.

Editorial comment: if you really want to know what the 2-way system and roundabout is all about, wait under Semana Santa, when the viewing stands for the VIPs will be erected there. It’s the same mentality that requires a Spanish flag the size of a small country flying over the fountain at the other end of town.
