A lorry, carrying 1,000 litres of nitric acid overturned on the port road that leads from the N-340 down past the paper factory.
The accident, which occurred at 12.00h yesterday morning, set light to the roadside vegetation, so the police closed the road to traffic. By 15.30h the road had been reopened. The lorry had collided with an electricity pylon, which is what caused the fire.
The 49-year-old driver was only slightly injured and was treated on the spot, without it being necessary to take him to the medical centre.
Half of the load was spilt on the road surface and the rest in a roadside field. The lorry was also transporting a propane tank, which, fortunately, was not ruptured. No other vehicles were involved.
