The Fire Service in the city of Málaga managed to rescue a 5-year-old girl who had been hanging on from an 8th-floor balcony.
The incident, which took place on the Calle Virgen de Belén, attracted a large crowd of nail-biting bystanders, watching the 30m-extending ladder slowly reaching up to the child as she clung to the outside of the balcony.
While this was taking place on the outside, other fire personnel were racing up to the 8th floor and tried to force the front door.
Meanwhile the ladder was at its full extent so stability in the cage was difficult as the slightest movement made it bounce around.
The girl, despite being frightened, was very calm the whole time, says the fireman who actually lifted her into the cage-cum-platform.
Two last things: had the girl been on a balcony any higher then they would not have been able to reach her – the longer, 42m extending ladder has been u/s since 2015.
Finally, how did she manage to be out there? Well, the mother has nine kids and she simply thought that she had all of them in tow when she left the flat, locking the front door. The girl panicked, couldn’t get out, so she went out onto the balcony to find help…
She found it.
