Torrecuevas Romería Today

ALM Romeria 01 OnLTorrecuevas in Almuñécar is celebrating its annual romeria today — a trog up the river in colourful togs and culminating in a feast.

The VII Romería de San Isidro Labrador might be merriment under the aqueduct in Torrecuevas, but it’s traffic hold-ups along the San Sebastian road up to where the Torrecuevas junior school is — something to bear in mind if you’re in a hurry on that road this morning.

Quite a bit of the route, mind, is along the riverbed, with people on foot, on horseback, in cars or stapled, gleefully to flower-festooned floats. The route also takes them through the vega.

Now, before somebody gets offended that we haven’t mentioned it, this is a religious event, as well as a piss up, so there was the appropriate church service at the Iglesia de el Salvador on the P-4 this morning before they set off.

Here’s the full route for both wishing to participate and those wishing to avoid it:

Iglesia de el Salvador, Barrio P-4; Calle Puerto de la Cruz, Calle Tetuán, Calle Mariana Pineda, Avenida Rey Juan Carlos I, Carrera de la Concepción, Carretera Suspiro del Moro, Calle Molvízar, Camino de la Vega Primera, Rio Verde, Torrecuevas (Caicillos) then along the Otivar road as far as the Rambla de Torrecuevas.
