A total of 49 pupils and four teachers from IES Historiador Chabàs (Dénia, Alicante) were trapped for two days in a mountain refuge on Sierra Nevada.
The road (A-395) leading to it was under snow drifts of several metres in depth and in some cases the students had to dig down over a metre just to find their cars.
However, they had plenty of food and heating in this refuge-cum-youth hostel, so there was no panic, just plenty of snowball fights.
In fact, one of the teachers cheerfully stated, that if the snow-ploughs couldn’t reach them, they would walk down and leave their buried cars behind.
