The Museo de Historia de Motril will be running an exhibition all about CB (Citizen Band) radio from now until the 23rd of March.
The expo, entitled CB27 has been put on by H.R. enthusiasts Roberto Ortega, José Pedro Garrido, José Ángel Puerta, José Castillo, Juan Antonio Rodríguez y Francisco Martín.
Ham-radio networks were the first social media, long before the Internet; since 1945, to be exact, when the inventor of the walkie-talkie, Al Gross, founded Citizens Radio Corporation.
But it wasn’t all just 10-4 Rubber Duck between US juggernaut drivers, as here on the Costa Tropical, Motril fishermen used Channel 4, whereas Spanish lorry drivers used Channel 19.
So that’s the Museo de Historia de Motril, on Calle Cardenal Belluga, running on Tuesdays and Thursday from 10.00h to 13.30h and 17.00h to 19.00h, plus Fridays and Saturdays from 10.00h to 13:30h and 17:00h to 20:30h.
Editorial comment: the Ed and Martin are ex-service comms from the 70s: Dave farted about with flags and lamps, whilst Martin held off the hordes of T-72’s massed on the East German border with a morse key.
