The new Policia Nacional building was built just under a decade ago, with a budget of 2.8m euros, but on the very day of the inauguration it become evident that it was defective.

Indeed it was pretty indicative that workmanship was lacking whe the inaugural plaque fell off the wall moments after it was unveiled, but a long litany of defectives came to light over the coming months.

Facade dressing sections began to fall off so for the last three years the outside of the building has had barriers around it so that passersby are not hit by anything falling off the building.

Basically, the building company was operating at the height of the building boom and were more worried about getting it finished and moving on, rather than diligently carrying out a professional job. Strange!

It is hardly any surprise then that the Town Hall took the building to court, but a little late because the company had gone into receivership. Faced with an eternal court case, in March 2016, a bigwig from the Junta visited the building and announced there that the rather than watch the facade dressing peal off at their leisure, the Government would get them replaced using public funds rather than risk a passerby get brained by ‘building dandruff.’

Subsequently, the Government was to fork out another 790,000 euros for the task. Work was to begin last summer but a budget hiccup put it back to this summer. The public work contract went to Construcción Cordobesa S. L. but with a greatly reduced contract budget of 483.616,98 euros.
