Hamburg Pays Out Over Pepinos

MOT Cucum 07It was an economic blow when Hamburg pointed a finger at Spanish cucumbers as the cause of an outbreak of E.coli, which later turned out to be false, but the damage was done.

Before we go into the blow to Spanish exports, it should be remembered that 56 people died in Germany during that outbreak.

Now, at last, the City of Hamburg has agreed upon a compensation deal with the Andalusia company, Runet Bio, based in Algarrobo, in the Axarquia area of Málaga, as well as another company in Almería.

André Buchholz,the Spokesperson for the judge presiding over the provincial law court in Hamburg, explained that the city would be paying between 400,000 and 700,000 euros to each of the two horticultural-exports companies.
