Seprona, which is a department of the Guardia Civil charged with crimes against the environment and animals in particular, has been busy in the province of Malaga.
They have investigated and acted against a total of 50 people in that province, resulting in the consfication of 316 animals for cruelty or abandonment, which amounts to the same in many cases.
Their investigatons began in January as part of a campaign called Yosipuedcontarlo (I can speak out), which is intended to raise awareness concerning cruelty to pets.
Counting on the help of the Málaga branch of the Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios they carried out over 200 interventions in several towns and villages in Málaga, targeting private kennels, livestock farms, zoological parks and even animal shelters. These interventions resulted in 580 administrative fines for, amongst other things, unsuitable living conditions, lack of food, water and hygiene, as well as veterinary attention.
One of the cases was that of a dog with a broken jaw, fruit of the brutal treatment metered by its owners as well as another case of a whippet that had been hanged.
Lastly, there was a case of a vet operating on a horse without sufficient anesthesia, in an inadequate location, causing the animal much suffering.
