TejasA football coach for a boys team in La Herradura has been arrested for alleged sextorison (child grooming).

To date, seven victims have come forward, accusing the 26-year-old coach for the Club de Fútbol de La Herradura of taking photos of them in the changing room/showers and reportedly sending them to his victims via Whatsapp demanding more and in some cases explicit photographs of themselves.

Article 183.2 in the Spanish Penal Law Code covers this crime; i.e., child grooming: obtaining photographs and using them via the Internet to blackmail minors up to 16-years old, being punishable with between six months and two years in prison.

The judge has placed a court order against the accused, forbidding him from approaching within 200 metres of the victims.

The coach had access to the locker room and showers and a reason to be there, as he gave coaching lessons three times a week during the first four months of the football season, starting in October.

The victims’ parents brought charges against the accused after having discovered how their sons were allegedly being put under pressure by the accused to provide explicit nude photographs, some in sexual postures. The victims are aged between 12 and 15.

It was the football club itself which first suspected what was happening, and had their suspicions corroborated by one of the parents.

“When we hire somebody from another club, we are always cautious and adopt such measures as always having another person accompany them; they will work with minors but we don’t lower our guard until we get to know them well,” explained a club source, adding, “In this case we have nothing to fear as we sacked him a month ago, informing the Andalusian Football Federation of our decision, whilst at the same time informing the Guardia Civil.”

The magistrate ordered the release the accused, who denies the charges, pending trial.
