ALP Snowboard Championships OnLThe World Snowboarding and Freestyle-Ski Championships will be held between the 7th and the 19th of March at the Sierra Nevada ski station.

It is calculated this will have an economic impact of 16-million euros and generate 1,501 work posts. This estimation is the fruit of a report drawn up by the Universidad de Granada.

Furthermore, there will be 224 members of the press and the event will be shown live on 22 TV channels in 20 countries within Europe, America and Asia.

Yup, it’s big.

As for competitors, there will be around 1,500, counting athletes and trainers from around 40 countries. As for spectators, well the hostelry sector is expecting 8,000 over-night stays… and that’s just the team members over the days that the event runs.

The ski station has had to build a snowpark Sulayr on the Loma de Dílar, where most of the heats will take place. The slope-style area has been improved; i.e., a modules and jumps slope.

Furthermore, extra lighting has been installed for the events taking place after nightfall. And to make sure that there is enough snow, three latest-generation snow cannons have been acquired.

The programme is:

March 7th – Opening ceremony
March 11th – SS finals, HP finals night event
March 12th – SBX finals
March 13th – SBX TEAM finals; SX finals
March 14th – PGS finals
March 15th – PSL finals
March 17th – BA finals
March 19th – Closing ceremony
