mot-drugs-on-lorry-onlThe Motril Port Police intercepted a lorry carrying over 200-hundred kilos of hashish, thanks to an ongoing police investigation.

The said police investigation began at the beginning of this year, following leads linked to a criminal organization on the east coast of Spain, using lorries.

Aware that a consignment was about to move, heading for Melilla on the North African coast via Motril Port, the police began tracking a particular lorry. The vehicle had brought in a legal cargo but was going to return with the drug hidden in secret compartments.

Tracking the suspected vehicle they were able to focus the operation on a particular ferry sailing for Melilla.

After a thorough search, the police uncovered 246.65kg of hashish hidden in the fuel tanks. The 44-year-old driver was immediately arrested and the drugs impounded.

The Grupo de Estupefacientes in Motril and the UDYCO (Unidades de droga y crimen organizado) based in Melilla and Fuengirola, were involved in the operation.
