The theft took place on the last weekend of July when the accused made off with a minibike and a large-cylinder motorbike after cutting through a chain-link fence and wheeling the bikes out until they found some downhill to freewheel them away.
However, they were unable to bump start them and ended up abandoning the big bike and making off with the minibike by pushing it.
Soon afterwards the municipal police found the abandoned bike and identified its owner by tracing the chassis number – the thieves had removed its number plate.
When contacted, the owner said that he had realized that the bikes had been taken but had not got around to reporting the theft.
Further police investigation led to the two youngsters from Salobreña, aged 18 and 21, who upon questioning admitted to the theft. However, they refused to say where they had hidden the mini-bike.
It turned out that the two alleged thieves had caused quite a lot of damage to the large-cylinder bike before abandoning it.
