The Street that’s ‘Not Quite There’

LHR Street no name OnLWe had an interesting letter from Cees Geuzebroek in La Herradura to complain that his street does not exist… officially, that is.

The Geuzebroeks bought a house in Carmenes del Mediterraneo three years ago – one of the twelve houses on this street-which-is-not-a-street. The problem is that although the street physically exists with all the people living in it… it does not exist on paper, or better said, the Catastro records.

Imagine the problem when you’re trying to deal with Endesa or Aguas y Servicios when the name of your street doesn’t figure anywhere, let alone on a street sign at the beginning of your street. Fortunately, the postman, bless his cotton socks, knows where it is and faithfully delivers the mail regardless of the assortment of wrong-address names on the letters.

As you can imagine, the said family has been around to the Town Hall dozens of times, each time receiving reassurances that the problem is on the point of being sorted out. Yeah right!

They have even sent a letter to the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera and actually received a response saying that the problem would be brought up in the next Council Plenary Meeting but lo; as February draws to a close – not a sausage.

But let us emphasise the problem, because according to the Town Hall their street is Calle Morenas; according to Aguas y Servicios it’s Calle Mararvillas Sur; according to Endesa, its Camino del Cementerio and according to the private security company, it’s Urbanización Maravillas Sur.

We’re a bit busy at the moment, rushing to get the Gazette out – February is always tight – but as soon as the mag is out, we shall have a quiet word with the Town Hall.
