A 56-year-old paragliding enthusiast from the Netherlands was injured on the last Sunday of February after taking off from Otivar.
The emergency number 112 received a call at 18.30h when a fellow paraglider reported that a man had taken off from the radio masts above Otívar and had not met up afterwards as agreed, even though two hours had passed.
The fire service, municipal police, Guardia Civil and Protección Civil, as well as members of the forest fire unit, Infoca, were involved in the search.
He was eventually found in the municipality of Nerja near some quarries. The man complained of pains in his chest and was immediately taken to the main Málaga hospital.
On a personal note, as I live just under those radio masts, more or less, I was surprised to see a paraglider airborne despite the unusual atmospheric conditions, caused by dust in the air, that Sunday.
