A shoal of what looked like a shrimps were washed up onto one of Salobreña’s beaches during the night of the 22nd, puzzling everybody.
Well, it turns out that there were plankton that had been dumped onto our shoreline thanks to the currents and recent seismic activity.
The Mayor of Salobreña Mª Eugenia Rufino, explained, “As soon as we had news of this appearance along the length of the beach, which contacted the relevant authorities; i.e. the Consejerías de Medioambiente y Pesca.”
Consequently, the Fishing Department sent a biologist team down to examine the washed-up marine life. pronouncing that “it could have something to do” with the recent seismic activity between Morocco and Spain, causing them to stray over to here.
The biologists reassured the Mayor that there was nothing to worry about because the seagulls and waves will dispose of them.
Probably not a good idea to buy any ‘baby shrimps’ at bargain prices from street hawkers with a penchant to disappear when the police are around.
