The Provincial Delegate for Granada in the Regional Government, Sandra García, responded to accusations made by the Mayor of Lújar and other PP politicians.
“We don’t need any town hall to call for an investigation into the fire, because such an investigation has been going on since day one,” she said, pointing out that Infoca possess a special department precisely for that task for every fire tackled.
She praised the intervention of Infoca, the Motril Fire Service, the military unit deployed; everybody, in fact, who fought against the forest blaze.
She said that when there is a fire like this, it is not the time for a political photo op before the cameras together with other party members in order to obtain political benefit in her opinion.
Asked by the gathered press whether it was true that Infoca was late getting to the fire, she responded, “It is false that they arrived late after receiving the alert from 112. When the report is finished we will give all the data available before the regional parliament because there is a lot at risk here and you can’t go mixing the subject of forest fires with partisan politics.”
Editorial comment: It really does seem ungrateful that a village which was rescued from the flames thanks to the efforts of many should complain whilst the ashes are still warm, about precisely those that risked their lives.
Does it really matter if they took a while to get there, if it were the case? The fact is that they did get there and they did put it out, because if they hadn’t, the Mayor of Lújar wouldn’t have a village to preside over.
