The Treasurer Vs. The Mayor

ALM Treasurer OnLThe Almuñécar Municipal Treasurer has issued a scathing report on the alleged “irregular” state of the town coffers and accounts.

This report could not have come at a worse time, as the municipal elections are less than four weeks away – perhaps for this very reason the report comes to light now.

The truth is that the Almuñécar Town Hall has got through three Treasurers in as many months.

María de los Ángeles García Castillo, sent a report to the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera on the 9th of March. The report was also addressed to the seven councillors of the ruling party. Sra. García detailed the problems that she has had to confront in order to manage the municipal accounts, stating, that she had not been deterred by “pressure, work overload, obstacles, intimidatory meetings or defamations,” along the way.

Since she sent the report in March, she claims that she has received not one reply from any of the councillors, nor responses to her requests for information from their department, for alleged cash earnings.

She goes on to say that she discovered that the municipal web page has an online ticket sales section for cultural events, but where the money goes and who handles it is far from clear. She has heard nothing to clarify that situation in response to her inquiries.

We won’t go into more details – and there are many – and hope that the Mayor will have a response to these accusations, which we will reproduce in the Seaside Gazette.
