On the 30th of March, the new eastern access to Motril port will be inaugurated with plenty of ceremony and photos.
As the Gorgoracha-Puntalón section of the A-7 is to be opened in April… this will mean that traffic can come all the way from Madrid, for example, to the port itself, without having to use a normal national road.
This also means that most of the heavy-goods vehicles will no longer pass through urban areas to reach the docks.
Editorial comment: excellent news, without doubt, although it will escape the attention of few that this ‘official inauguration’ replete with posing politicians, has been squeezed into the only window for such political acts.
No ceremonial inaugurations are permitted between elections being announced and their conclusion, which means that nothing could be inaugurated with political pomp before the 23rd of March, because of the regional elections, or after the 30th of March, because of the May 24 municipal elections.
Two questions: could it have been opened earlier and how much will the ceremony cost?
