Salobreña has launched a campaign to counter the abandoning of young pets; pups and kittens, etc.

This is being done in collaboration with the animal protection association CIRAS as well as two veterinary clinics in town.

The campaign aims at informing the general public about the advantages of having pets sterilized so that they won’t produce litters that will eventually be abandoned.

To this end, there will be posters and radio adverts. Furthermore, thanks to a deal struck with the town’s veterinary clinics, pet owners who decide to take this measure will have a 70% discount on standard prices for castration, explained the Councillor for the Environment, Martin Valenzuela.

If you are interested, then you need only pop along to either of the town’s vets and put your name down. Once a full list is ready, pet owners will be called in the order that they put their name down – if you are the last, then you’ll be the last to be called.

Oh yes, and you must be empadronado to be eligible.
