Lanjarón Food Bank Scandal?

panoramic view of lanjaron, granadaThe Ministry of Food, Agriculture and the Environment has received numerous complaints that the foodstuffs from the Banco de Alimentos is being distributed anything but fairly.

The said facilities, which were being managed by the Asociación La Caridad belonging to that municipality, hasn’t distributed food since the end of last year. According to the FEGA (belonging to the Ministry) the association, of their own accord, withdrew in April this year after carrying out a control check in March.

The association had found that they were lacking an established criteria as to who should be receiving the food and that they lacked the material means to distribute the food effectively anyway.

The regulating body, FEGA, had also found that the association was receiving a greater ratio of foodstuffs than could be justified; i.e., the FEGA records had more food donation receivers on their books for the association than the association was actually delivering to.

In the meantime the politicians have got their hands on the affair and the opposition party began by demanding an explanation from the Mayor, as the association worked in collaboration with the Town Hall.

Finally, El Banco de Alimentos, which is a registered trademark, issued a communique from their provincial office in the city of Granada to say that they did not have a Banco de Alimentos in Lanjarón; i.e., it has nothing to do with them and made a formal request for the Lanjarón food bank to stop using its name, as it has no authorization to do so.
