Emigration from Granada 40% Up

AND Emigration OnLIn the last five years the number of Granadinos that have emigrated in search of work has mushroomed: 47,730 people from the province have left the country in that time. In this year alone 13,000 packed their bags.

Where have they gone? It breaks down like this: 15,296 to Argentina, 8,865 to Brazil, 6,959 to France 3,963 to Germany, 1,017 to Belgium 2,112 to Switzerland and 1,235 to the UK.

If you take the population of Almuñécar (27,703) and Salobreña (12,747), and throw in Otivar, Jete and Lentegí (approx 2,500 in total), topped off with Itrabo (1,028) and Molvizar (3,407) you have a grand total of 47,385 people.

In other words, the total population loss for the province in the five years of crisis since 2009 is as if every man woman and child living in Almuñécar, Salobreña, Otívar, Jete, Lentegí, Molvízar and Ítrabo had left the country…

Editorial comment: Gives you pause for thought, doesn’t it? And here’s another one: had those 47,730 people all been politicians, think how much money the country would be saving!
