This has nothing to do with the paedophile cases in the Granada diocese that are all over the headlines at the moment, but concerns an attack in a Motril church back in October 2010.

It was nine in the morning and the priest was offering holy wafers to the queue of expectant worshipers when the one of them upon reaching the front of the queue screamed, “Hypocrite priest, false priest, I have to kill you.”

As you can imagine, this is not part of the normal exchanges during Catholic mass and it did take the priest aback a little, but not as much as the slap, causing him to drop the proffered holy wafer.

In the meantime, psychiatrists have confirmed that the man wasn’t firing on all cylinders at the time, suffering from a “psychotic derangement associated with drug consumption,” which means that instead of up to six years in prison, he will probably be held for two years in a psychiatric ward.

Anyway, the case comes up on the 10th of next month.
