According to the main opposition party, the conservative mayor of Lanjarón, using a mayoralty decree, has put the census office into dubious hands.
Until now, as is the vast majority of ayuntamientos, the Oficina de Empadronmiento for Lanjarón was in the hands of a public functionary, but an order handed down from the Mayor, Eric Escobedo, gave this task to a fellow a PP politician, who works as an advisor there.
The said advisor, who was on the PP candidates list during the last elections, will be able to have access to and modify the actual electoral list for residents.
Consequently the PSOE opposition has presented a complaint before a judge as the said advisor “lacks the condition of being a public functionary, which may cause impossible or difficult to rectify detriment to those wishing to register under these conditions.”
In short, apparently the opposition fear that the said gentleman might use his position to alter the balance in his party’s favour, even though they have not said so in as many words.
