Immigrant Deaths Scandal

Interior Minister, Jorge Fernández Díaz appeared in Parliament to give an explanation concerning the 13 dead immigrants in the Ceuta Incident.

The first official explanation given by the Ministry of the Interior denied that the immigrants had ever reached Spanish territory and that they had not intervened in the incident, which they claim evolved between the immigrants and the Moroccan police.

However, footage came to light that clearly showed a group of immigrants swimming towards the beach, after having swum around the fenced breakwater that separates Morocco for the Spanish enclave town of Ceuta.

The Guardia Civil can be seen waiting on the beach to arrested the swimmers once they reached the beach.

Because of this footage, the Ministry changed its claim but maintained its denial that the Guardia Civil had fired rubber bullets and tear gas at the struggling swimmers.

SPN Guardia Civil head OnLThe incident became almost surreal when the civilian Head of the Guardia Civil announced that he was going to sue the NGO that had made ‘these false claims.’

Opposition MP’s demanded that the Minister appeared before the House, as well and demanding the resignation of the said civilian head, Arsenio Fernández.
