La Herradura’s Calle Real has the governing party and the PSOE opposition at loggerheads.
The PSOE are calling for an immediate halt to the work on Calle Real as, according to local party leader, Francisco Prados, it does not correspond to the original plan and is consequently causing “annoyance and indignation” amongst locals.
Socialist Councillor for La Herradura, Censi Ruiz, describes the work being carried out as a “botch job” as it is differs widely from the original project, mainly because the architectural barriers remain. Neither, she says, are new rain drains, sewage pipes or mains-water pipes being incorporated.
To make matters worse, according to the socialist councillor, parking spaces are being eliminated and not one garden space is being incorporated.
First Councillor for the Village, Juan José Ruiz Joya, says that he is surprised by the reaction of the socialists as the work being carried out is only the first phase and corresponds to what was approved in the the Plenary Meeting of the Town Council back in June.
He points out that this is the first improvement works to be carried out on Calle Real in decades and the aim, set down by municipal engineers, is to eliminate the steps along this central street.
Meanwhile, the Gazette has been contacted by local residents describing the works as a ‘monstrosity.’ They claim the work is making access to their own homes nearly impossible and even worse if you are wheelchair-bound or using a child’s pushchair. They are definitely not happy at the new construction direction outside their front doors and already have a large amount of signatures on a petition asking the Town Hall to stop the work and re-access impact these works will be.
