Shot For Texting

With the recent accusations of racism, we are not sure we are allowed to say ‘only in America’ anymore… but anyway, only in America.

We picked this one up on the BBC website, who in turn got it from Fox 13 Television in Floriday USA. It involves a retired police officer, Curtis Reeves, who took his wife to the cinema to see Mark Wahlberg in Lone Survivor. But during the previews for upcoming releases, Chad Oulson, a 43-year-old from Tampa was texting his 3-year-old daughter. The texting upset Mr. Reeves a great deal and he asked Mr. Oulson to desist. There followed a bit of an argument, which resulted in Mr. Reeves leaving the auditorium to get the manager.

A witness to the incident explained, “he comes back without the manager and three seconds, four seconds later, the argument starts up again,” he told Fox 13 Television.

“Their voices start going up; there seems to be almost a (physical) confrontation. Somebody throws popcorn, I’m not sure who threw the popcorn, and, bang, he was shot.”

Chad Oulson was fatally wounded and his wife, who saw what was coming tried to grab her husband and was injured as the bullet passed through her hand.

A spokesperson for Tampa Police, Laura, McElroy explained that Mr. Reeves, who has been charged with second-degree murder, was a captain when he retired from the police in 1993, after which, he was on the board of a nearby Crime Stoppers organization… pity he didn’t bloody well stop this crime then!

As a footnote… this comes on the back of a recent shooting in Fort Worth, Texas, where a 24-year-old man was showing a 14-year-old acquaintance his gun, when it went off hitting the boy in the face and killing him. The 24-year-old, who is described as a ‘responsible gun owner’ said he didn’t know the weapon was loaded and said sorry… well, that’s OK then.
