What started out as a scuffle between a father and son in Castell de Ferro ended with a policeman from the Guardia Civil wearing a chair on his head.
The Guardia received a call from concerned neighbours who could hear a heavy-duty row underway next door, so they went around to investigate. They arrived to find a 1.90m tall son, weighing 120 kilos, laying into his considerably smaller father. Whilst the father looked relieved to see the police-post sergeant standing in his sitting room, the son just became more irate.
So irate, in fact, that instead of calming down he smashed a chair on the officer’s skull – not recommended. The officers was injured by the head-furniture arrangement and a medic was called to the scene. The medic actually managed to calm him down and convinced him to accompany him – and the damaged sergeant – in the ambulance to Santa Ana Hospital.
The son was later transferred to the main hospital in Granada where he was treated for mental illness. The sergeant, in the meantime, had stayed at Santa Ana were he remained in observation for 24 hours. He was also suffering from stress-related arrhythmia.
The policeman was not having a good week because only five days previously a thief beat up his step-father and stole his car.
