At around 18.00h, yesterday evening, a heav-goods vehicle caught fire on the A-7 between La Herradura and Nerja, on the westbound carriageway, closing that section for several hours.

The lorry came to grief just short of the Tunel de Cerrosol, with huge amounts of smoke being sucked into the tunnel itself, thus making it impassable. So, the emergency services made the decision to close the section completely, directing traffic off at the La Herradura junction.

The huge build up of traffic on the westbound carriageway just behind the fire, which included myself, on the way to Malaga airport, was turned around to drive the wrong way down the A-7 and exit at La Herradura and then taking the N-340 to Nerja to rejoin the A-7.

Today, the photo shows that the destroyed lorry is still at the scene, awaiting recovery.
