Politicians’ Salaries Frozen

Firstly, we should point out that “frozen” means that they will not increase, rather than they have been seized, for example.

The Motril Town Council, in its efforts to achieve ‘budget stability,’ has decided to continue with a policy from in 2010, which has reportedly saved almost 100,000 euros for the municipal coffers – by not increasing the salaries of the Town-Council members.

The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, says that this is to match the salary freeze applied to public workers; i.e., functionaries.

An heroic gesture, indeed, but it would be interesting to know just how much these selfless politicians actually cost the municipal coffers, wouldn’t it?
