Do you remember the competition by the private TV channel, Antena 3, to decide on Spain’s Nº1 beach? Well Maro came Second! Yes out of all the beaches in Spain, which is a peninsular, don’t forget, Maro obtained 57,299 votes, which was barely 3,000 fewer than the winner.
The winning beach was Playa La Grandella in Alicante, which also won last years best-beach competition, as well. In third place came Cala Macaralleta on Menorca, which obtained 33,000.
The competition began back in June with Internet users via facebook, Twitter and the Antena 3‘s own website putting forward candidate beaches. Of all the beaches put forward, the number was whittled down to the top ten in each autonomous region of Spain with a coastline.
The competition moved onto Phase Two in July and Maro beach came in as the best beach in Andalusia with 6,000 votes, so the competition passed onto Phase Three where the best beach of each autonomous region competed.
As the voting progressed the situation was fluid with Maro, at one point, leading, before finally coming second to La Grandella.
Enhorabuena, Maro!
