Mayor Says Unable to Help Carmenes del Mar

The Mayor of Almuñécar “laments” the situation that Carmenes del Mar on Cerro Gordo, La Herradura is passing through.

Trinidad Herrera basically admitted that the problem up there is just too big for a town hall to cope with.

According to municipal reports the terrain slippage goes down several metres and affects 60% of the urbanización, including the main street that gives access to the housing complex.

“The repair costs are very high,” she explained, pointing out that the Town Hall had approached both the Regional and Central Governments for assistance in helping affected families.

She confirmed that the Town Hall is constantly assessing the safety aspect and passing on the information via meetings.

In other words, other than recording further movements on the hillside and informing the residents about them, the Mayor has basically said that Carmenes del Mar cannot count on the Town Hall – who supposedly carried out geological studies on the stability of the terrain before issuing a building licence for the development project.
