When people say that somebody has a cross to bear, he usually means it metaphorically, but this is not the case concerning Justin Márquez. Nope, Justin has dragged a bloody great wooden cross from Málaga to Gibraltar along the old main road.
This 50-year-old gent, originally from the city of Granada but resident of Nerja, arrived on a Sunday at the gates of Gibraltar with a badly scuffed wooden cross and four days of trudging. Mind you, he did have a little wheel on the end to makes things a little easier and allowing him to knock up 40 kms a day.
His next step was to carry out a 24 hour hunger strike, more commonly known as a day of fasting, outside political-posturing world.
So what is Justin up to? Well he wants world peace and an end to hunger. He readily admits that its not a new message to proclaim and that his arrival had merely coincided with the border dispute rather than being his reason for being there. However, as he was there and the conflict is on going, he asked God to mediate in the conflict
Tourisst crossing over into Gibraltar, however, were surprised to see Justin with his cross at the customs post. The cross, by the way is three metres high and two metres wide and ways ten kilos, with the little wheel included.
Readers might remember an article of ours from back in 2009 when Justin dragged (or wheeled) a cross from Granada to Madrid in protest over how a family member would not let him have access to irrigation water for his land.
