Is it Working?

The Town Hall has been arousing the anger of Salobreñeros and visiting holidaymakers; it was a tradition on Salobreña beaches to wake up early in the morning, set up your beach umbrella, chairs and other equipment in order to stake out a choice place at the very water’s edge, then go back to sleep have breakfast and return to the beach where your position was reserved.

All you need is just one family member (usually the retired grandfather) who rose early and all the family members did not then have to bother looking for a place on the busy beach. It’s as easy as that and as unfair as it goes. At the beginning of this summer, the Town Hall banned this practice and announced that they were going to confiscate all the stuff that was left on the beach unattended, with a €30 fine to get it back.

More than 200 sets of beach equipment have been confiscated so far, yet nobody has asked for them back, nevertheless this practice is still going on.
