Butane Goes Up

On the 26th of March the price of a bottle of butane (una bombona de butano) went up to 17.13 euros, which is a 5% rise on the previous price of 16.32 euros.

This new price will be revised in two months’ time. Under the previous system for calculating the price of liquified petroleum-derived gases the tariff were revised every three months and could not vary more than 5% on the previous price.

According to the ministerial order, the price of a 12.5K of butane before taxes has been fixed at 1.117 euros per kilo, giving a price of 13.971 euros. To this price 21% IVA is added, as well a ‘green tax,’ giving this new prices of 17.13 euros, which will stand until the 14th of May – the revisions are always carried out on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

Furthermore, under the new system, the price of the bombona cannot exceed 17.5 euros within a year.

The problem is that Spain’s energy deficit; i.e.,the difference between production costs and the trading price continues to produce a disparity, which the Government says it will attempt to ‘recuperate a little’ in the next price revision.
