A judge has sentenced a teenage girl to attend a course on how to be a responsible mother, after she was arrested for using her baby to beg.

The legal term is “the utilization of minors for begging,” and is considered a crime. In this case, not only was a minor used for begging but the guilty party is also a minor; i.e., the teenage mother. She was spotted by the Policia Local, sitting outside a supermarket with the baby in her arms, begging, when she was only 16.

Now 18 years of age, the young woman has finally arrived before a judge, who has sentenced her to attend a one year school for parenting and family planning. It’s more of an opportunity than a punishment; a chance to become a responsible mother.

In fact, the sentence was that forwarded by the Public Prosecutor, which the girl accepted, meaning that the case didn’t reach a hearing stage and the judge merely imposed the sentence.

On the other hand, the young woman is an immigrant from Eastern Europe and was married off by her family when still an adolescent, to a man in his 20’s.
