P-4 School Upgrade

The Asociación de Madres y Padres de Alumnos (AMPA) at the IES Puerta del Mar in Almuñécar are now happy bunnies. The reason? Because the school will soon be providing high-school education after operating as a junior secondary school since it opened seven years ago.

“We would like to thank the provincial school board for supporting our demands. It’s never been a case of a lack of space or teaching staff,” said the Chairwoman of AMPA, Bibiana Palacios.

The move had the total backing of all the parents, as well as the teaching community in town and the Town Hall itself, which expressed its support in a plenary meeting of the Town Council. Once this collective support was joined by the support of the provincial education board, it was only a case of getting the approval of Sevilla (Junta de Andalucia). This was obtained when the Junta included the proposal with the Programa Sénecar.

Sra. Palacio explained that soon it will not be necessary for the 500 pupils at IES Puerta del Mar to transfer to a different school – IES Antigua Sexi or IES Al Andalus– to continue their higher secondary education.
