Looming Iberia Strike

Brace yourselves for industrial action by the Spanish national airline, Iberia, who have scheduled strike action for Friday the 14th and then from Monday the 17th through to Friday the 21st. If you have flights booked with them during those dates, best you get in contact with them.

The strike, which is being backed by the major unions involved in Iberia, but not by the pilots union, Sepla, is in response to the envisaged ‘restructuring’ of the said company, which is now almost an appendix to British Airways.

This virtual subservience to British Airways, which was supposed to be a mere merger, is what is rankling the unions, because since the merger was forged, it is the Iberia side of the union that has taken the brunt of joint adjustments.

The said cuts translate into staff layoffs and the selling off of the Iberia maintenance and handling departments, as well as the loss of traditional air routes, together with the loss of 25 aircraft, and between 25% and 35% salary reductions.

Reading over that little lot, readers might agree with the unions on that one.
