A brother and sister, both in their 70’s, died after their car left the road and plunged down a gully near Negratín Reservoir, in the municipality of Freila (Baza area). The car came to rest,upside down, at the bottom.

It is not known what caused the driver to lose control of the car so that it crossed over the road and fall 25m down the steep side of a gully between the Hotel Los Chaparros crossroads and the reservoir. The accident occurred at around 15.00h on the 3rd September.

Although emergency services from Baza rushed to the scene, including an emergency helicopter, upon reaching the car at the bottom it was to find both Modesto Ruiz Romero and his sister, Rafaela had died in the impact.

These deaths bring the total to three fatalities in road accidents in the last four days in the immediate area.
