The Policia Nacional arrested seven people, the majority of whom are from Almuñécar, in an anti-drugs police operation carried out in this coastal town. Some of those arrested belong to the same family.

Those arrested were brought before a judge at the local law courts, where anxious relatives gathered, to decide if they would be remanded in custody or bailed. Three were released pending trial the next day.

The judge has placed a gagging order on the proceedings, which means that very little additional information is available to the press. However, the fact that the operation was carried out by the Policia Nacional and the Spanish Customs Police in a town that is policed by the Guardia Civil could indicate that the crimes involved might include more than simple drug running.
