An NCO (below officer rank) serving in the Jordanian Air Force opted to visit the Alhambra whilst on holiday in Spain, and was so impressed by the architecture of the Alhambra that he decided to engrave his initials on one of the walls… and he was caught red handed.
This happened during last summer and his case has finally come up, resulting in his being found guilty of vandalism and ordered to pay 320 euros, 100 of which corresponds to a fine and the other 220 euros is compensation to be paid to the Tourist Board of the Alhambra.
Before being allowed to return to Jordan, pending the trial, he had to leave a 300-euro deposit for just this kind of outcome.
