Human, all too Human

It’s said that a policeman’s or Guardia’s word is worth more than a private citizen’s, and yet this story shows that our security forces are just as human as the rest of us.

A part-time Malaga policeman was killed in a shootout with a SWAT team when they tried to arrest him on suspicion of a kidnap attempt of a local bank manager. He wouldn’t come out willingly so entry was forced, shots exchanged, and death the result. Police now wonder if the policeman was involved in other dodgy business, which seems likely as the deceased had been disciplined a number of times for various infractions. I still don’t get why their word in a court of law is worth more than ours.

(Look at it this way: when it’s only your word against a policeman’s, then the policeman gets the benefit of the doubt. It actually makes sense – Ed)
