Benny has been acquitted – yet again! This time, he dodged a possible 2-year stretch in prison with a corresponding 10-year barring from public office. The latest judicial reprieve comes over the hitherto ‘illegal’ sports centre that was built in the vega of La Herradura, next to Río Jate. This means that nothing (judicial) stands between the Mayor and possible re-election in May next year in the municipal elections.
While this case against him was not exactly ‘piffling,’ the mother-of-all cases still hangs over him, which is the accusation of fraudulent bankruptcy over the Caso Tropical Fruits.
Back to the sports facilities case in La Herradura, which now that the result has been known, none of the opposition parties are claiming that they are surprised by his acquittal. According to one person interviewed – not a supporter of the Mayor – the Junta is just wasting money by taking out these judicial cases on the off chance of nailing Benny – furthermore, it’s a waste of good taxpayer’s money, claimed the said person. It does seem to any independent observer that the Junta always acts too late (submitting requisite judicial documents out of the set time limit). The most blatant example of too little and too late is the atrocious case of the monstrous hotel built on public land on the Playa Algarrobico in the national park of Níjar, Almería.
Be that as it may, another one bites the dust and Benny the Silver Bullet Dodger proclaims widely that, once again, the judicial system decides in his favour and against his adversaries, be they local political opposition, on the pondering Junta in Sevilla.
The good news is that La Herradura keeps it’s new facilities and the bad news is that our political masters have squandered yet more money in useless judicial battles.
