Anybody who has been up to the top of the old town, to the parking next to the church, will have seen workmen digging up the concrete surface in front of the church. The Province of Granada seems to be receiving one piece of bad news after another. First of all it was the negative from Brussels to route the Mediterranean rail-freight network via Costa Tropical, leaving Motril port without a rail connection, and then on the 26th of October, it was announced that the autovia construction between Taramay and Salobreña had seemingly ground to a halt.

A landslide near the mouth of the Punta de la Mona tunnel, on the La Herradura side, caused the main road to be closed to traffic whilst it was cleared. It’s not the first time that there has been a rock-fall there; in fact, retention netting etc has only recently been erected at this entrance.
