Calle Juan XXIII in Salobreña is immersed in roadworks, which has provoked detours for traffic, including the bus.
This has meant that the only way up to the Casco Antiguo (Old Town) is along Calle Puerta de la Villa and Calle Muralla.
Getting back down again is possible using Calle Antequera or Ladera de la Cruz (Calle Cartero Manuel Montilla has been reopened to facilitate this) coming out on Calle Rosario.
Which brings us to the bus, or the lack of it because the large van had been put back into use, but even so there is no way that it can get through the tunnel under the church square. So, traffic in the Radio Salobreña direction will now be along Calle Estación (which will have its one-way traffic reversed, along with Calle Gloria).
Confused? Well, no need to consult a shrink about that because who wouldn’t be!
Now, there will be another upheaval towards the end of this month, which is when Calle Rosario will be closed to traffic so that it can get the works, as well. When will that be finished? The Councillor for the Casco Antiguo does not want to be nailed down on that one but we’re probably looking at March.
The problem has been up to now is that just under the road surface is a very hard base rock which slows things right down and the Calle Rosario work will probably be no exception.
