Punta Access Cleaned Up

Almuñécar Town Hall maintenance staff have been busy cleaning up the main entrance to the Punta de la Mona. The Comunidad de Propetarios pointed out several years ago that it is not their responsibility; hence the Town Hall finally getting round to it.

Gazette Reader: Cotobro Burglaries

I would like to inform you of a recent series of burglaries in our urbanisation [in Cotobro, Almuñécar]. On Saturday 14th, between the 3 and 4 o’clock in the morning, the “cacos” (thieves) broke into several houses along c/del Tenis (including my own). In all cases the owners were absent.

Punta Access Road Finished

visitors to and residence of the Marina del Este on the Punta de la Mona can now use the main access road from the N-340 without fear of falling into a pit now that roadworks have concluded.

Running Out of Patience

I received a very disgruntled letter from a resident in Carmenes del Mar, who is absolutely disgusted with how Comarex is behaving over their responsibility for the disastrous state of many houses up there.

Town Hall 1 – Junta 0

Talking of fiascos, what about the monstrosity just below Urb. El Gallo on Punta de la Mona? You know; that apart-hotel scheme, built smack in the middle of a barranco, which allegedly caused the back road down to Hotel Alcazar to completely collapse and the main road down through the Punta to partially collapse?

Drowned Angler

The major but very sad news this month is the death of an angler on the Punta de la Mona. The 29-year-old man, Carlos P.A., had stripped and jumped into the sea and it is reported that a wave threw him against the rocks, causing him to drown.

Landslide Blocks Tunnel

A landslide near the mouth of the Punta de la Mona tunnel, on the La Herradura side, caused the main road to be closed to traffic whilst it was cleared. It’s not the first time that there has been a rock-fall there; in fact, retention netting etc has only recently been erected at this entrance.

Hash in a Cave

The Green Meanies (Guardia Civil) discovered 480 kilos of hashish that had been hidden in a cave, only accessible from the sea, on Cerro Gordo of La Herradura. According to the seaborne branch of the Guardia Civil ,El Servicio Marino, drug runners are increasingly using this kind of hiding place to store large quantities, so…

Road Improvements, N-340

Work on the roadside of the N-340 on either side of the Punta de la Mona tunnel is continuing. Drainage is being improved by turning the earth culverts into a concrete ones.
