Manufactured Education

It’s bad enough that in Andalucia the educational system has been shown to be defective and deficient, producing sub-par scholars with sub-par results once the former enter the work force, but to discover, or rather, uncover a ring which offered diplomas for titles that the students never even studied for, well, the cake’s been taken and left out in the rain.

The opposition and the unions have blasted the Mayor over dismissals at the Town Hall.
The PSOE, PP, IU (who rarely agree on anything) and the national workers’ union, the CGT, all consider that the dismissal of 15 town-hall workers (some of whom have been there for 20 years) was carried out for ‘irrational motives.’

Now, you can tell that it is coming up to the elections, because everybody is coming up with impressive ideas to improve the lives of residents. One such idea comes from the PP, who want to promote a network of ‘charming houses’ for rent.

Here we are, a mere three months from the next local elections and one of the winning party’s election promises stands unfulfilled, which is hardly surprising seeing as things have gone pretty egg shaped since May 2007.

Bus Station Fiasco

Well, it doesn’t look like Salobreña will be getting the long-awaited bus station any time soon, unfortunately. The Junta de Andalucía didn’t include any funds in the regional budget leaving the Salobreña PP and PSOE to blame each other for this disappointment.

PP Announces Pre-Election Campaign

The Partido Popular has kicked off their local-elections, pre-campaign, which is why you have probably seen banners stretching across the roads with Trinidad’s face, calling for a change.

Where’s the Hospital?

The PP has accused the Junta of failing with their promise to build a hospital for the comarca. The leader of the provincial PP, Sebastían Pérez, launched this accusation on a visit to the area.

Budget Won’t Budge

The ideal thing would be to start off on a positive note, but why break a habit of a lifetime, eh? Seriously though, the best place to start off is on the most important note – the one that will have most repercussions: the municipal budget.
