Reader’s Letter

There follows a readers letter about parking here in La Herradura,

Dear Editor
Will you ever write an article on the parking attendants that give you tickets and that whole situation? Why are the rules for Almuñécar different than for La Herradura, and who makes the rules? You never know if you are allowed to park for how long where? There is no information. And where does all that money that they collect go? Into someone’s pocket? And who pays for the phone that the girl has attached to her ear all the time?

Spring Fiesta

The end of April saw the celebration of the La Herradura Spring Fiesta, and thankfully, although a little bit cloudy at first, spring actually did show her sunny side.

Sports Hall Controversy

The La Herradura residents association to trying it’s hardest to prevent the demolition of the town sports hall, and have started a campaign to that effect to try and defend the legality of the building, which the Junta, in the form of the Prosecutor’s Office, has said is illegal, and that the land should be returned to its original state.

Charity Shop Recognition

Did you know that the AECC (Spanish anti-cancer association) has been around for 15 years? Whenever you enter their little charity shop, by the steps to the Municipal Market, you will most likely see Maria Jara Peñalver, who is the most ‘permanent’ of the 12 volunteers, who keep the shop and the association going.

Fresh School Hope

Parents in La Herradura are once again demanding a new school for their children, as the present school does not meet all the criteria necessary to provide a reasonable quality of education for it’s pupils, citing that students have to leave the grounds during breaks and no gymnasium or sports court facilities are available.

Cocaine Find

The Guardia Civil have recovered a package from the sea, just off Punta de la Mona, containing 26 kilos of cocaine.
The find came as a result of a tip-off from someone who said there appeared to be a strange looking package, wedged between rocks, in the shallows just off the Punta.

New Surface For Las Tejas

The football field at Las Tejas will be transformed in the near future, with the introduction of a new artificial surface, the second such sporting surface in La Herradura.

El Ancla Cliff

The Legend that is Cliff Feasey from El Ancla celebrated his 70th birthday last month, and it is a mark of the man that so many people not only turned out to celebrate with him, but who also contributed to the gift from his friends of an all expenses paid trip to The Emirates Stadium, home of his beloved Arsenal, to watch a premiership game next season.

Great Gallinero

Driving out of La Herradura on the N-340 towards Cerro Gordo, I realised I hadn’t been for a meal in the fantastic Gallinero for quite a few months! A colleague of mine has been recently and took her family along, reporting back the food was as good as ever, with chicken dishes to suit every taste.

Lobres Care Home Project

Nicky and John Euesden are fronting a brilliant new project in Lobres, which will see the construction of a Care & Rehabilitation Centre in the town. With tenders out for the construction work, things are really moving ahead.
