Park Improvements

Talking of the town’s main park, the Parque de las Americas, it’s going to receive a facelift, as well. The town’s skint (broke) but as voters have to be ‘stimulated,’ money from somewhere will be found – or borrowed – to impress them, naturally.

Witch Works

The work on the Rambla de las Brujas, which is the one that runs alongside Al Campo down to the port, will begin this month.

Romanian Evictions

News now on the Romanian campsite, which we reported on last month – well it’s gone, but the circumstances behind the ‘eviction’ have caused quite a bit of controversy, especially as the municipal elections are just around the corner, of course.

Port Collision

On the 10th of November at 13.00h there was a collision between a passenger ferry and a cargo ship/freighter, which resulted in a rupture of the ferry’s fuel tank and an oil spill of 3,000 litres.

Independent Republic of Motril

Did you know that Motril declared itself an independent republic in the1870’s? It probably had a population at the time of three people and two thirds of a goat, but there you go.

Municipal Pool Update

According to Vice Mayor, Antonio Escámez, the municipal swimming pool could be open to the public again by the middle of this month.

If you liked the concerts offered by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Cologne in La Herradura and Salobreña, then you will be delighted to learn that Motril will be hosting six consecutive days of concerts!

The ex socialist mayor of Motril Sr. Rubiales has joined the Mayor of Almuñécar’s party, the CA, bringing 100 followers with him.

Drainage System Overhaul

A total of 18m euros is going to be spent on improving the rain drainage system in Motril. The funds will be found from raising a surcharge on the normal water bills, so that within five years there will be enough to carry out this much-needed work.
